U.S. International Trade in Goods and Services Decreases in June

The U.S. goods and services deficit decreased by $4.4 billion in June, according to the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. Exports and imports both saw decreases, with exports falling by $2.9 billion and imports falling by $7.3 billion.

## U.S. International Trade in Goods and Services Decreases in June The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis announced that the U.S. goods and services deficit decreased by $4.4 billion in June, reaching $73.3 billion. This decrease was primarily driven by a decrease in the goods deficit of $3.9 billion to $102.1 billion and an increase in the services surplus of $0.5 billion to $28.8 billion. ## Exports and Imports Decrease in June June exports were $314.7 billion, $2.9 billion less than May exports. June imports were $388.0 billion, $7.3 billion less than May imports. The decrease in the goods and services deficit reflected a decrease in the goods deficit and an increase in the services surplus. ## Year-to-Date Trade Data Year-to-date, the goods and services deficit decreased $189.3 billion, or 33.8 percent, from the same period in 2025. Exports increased $198.3 billion or 11.7 percent. Imports increased $9.0 billion or 0.4 percent. ## Three-Month Moving Averages The average goods and services deficit increased $5.6 billion to $68.5 billion for the three months ending in June. Average exports decreased $1.3 billion to $320.2 billion in June. Average imports increased $4.2 billion to $388.7 billion in June. Year-over-year, the average goods and services deficit increased $6.6 billion from the three months ending in June 2025. ## Exports of Goods Decrease in June Exports of goods decreased $4.0 billion to $206.9 billion in June. This decrease was driven by a $3.3 billion decrease in industrial supplies and materials, a $5.7 billion decrease in crude oil, and a $1.6 billion decrease in fuel oil. Exports of services increased $1.1 billion to $107.8 billion in June, driven by a $0.5 billion increase in financial services and a $0.4 billion increase in travel. ## Imports of Goods Decrease in June Imports of goods decreased $7.9 billion to $309.0 billion in June. This decrease was driven by a $2.1 billion decrease in capital goods, a $3.0 billion decrease in computers, and a $1.9 billion decrease in pharmaceutical preparations. Imports of services increased $0.6 billion to $79.0 billion in June, driven by a $0.7 billion increase in charges for the use of intellectual property and a $0.2 billion increase in transport. ## Real Goods in 2017 Dollars The real goods deficit decreased $5.3 billion, or 5.3 percent, to $94.5 billion in June, compared to a 3.7 percent decrease in the nominal deficit. Real exports of goods decreased $1.4 billion, or 0.9 percent, to $153.6 billion, compared to a 1.8 percent decrease in nominal exports. Real imports of goods decreased $6.7 billion, or 2.6 percent, to $248.1 billion, compared to a 2.4 percent decrease in nominal imports. ## Revisions to May Data The May exports of goods were revised up $0.3 billion, while the May exports of services were revised down $0.4 billion. The May imports of goods were revised down $0.2 billion, while the May imports of services were revised up $0.2 billion. ## Goods by Selected Countries and Areas The June figures show surpluses with several countries, including the Netherlands, South and Central America, Hong Kong, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Australia, and Belgium. Deficits were recorded with several countries, including Vietnam, Mexico, China, Taiwan, the European Union, South Korea, Canada, Germany, India, Malaysia, Japan, Ireland, Italy, France, and Israel.
